Inspite of being such a physically imposing animal. Well breed Presa's are especially known for there abilites as guardian companions! Distrustful of strangers but tolerant when the situation dictates. They have an extremely keen sense of awareness, calmness and explosiveness that would be considered almost mythic. If not for the dedication of a few breeders around the world. That has brought us back into the authentic. Qualities that stand true too the breed are there willingness too please and there delicate behavior with both the young and old alike. One quote was because they may "sense their vulnerability" and respond accordingly.

I also came over thru the ABPT. And in my research I found more than a companion or family guardian. I found that in this breed esp. It requires early socialization, training, a firm handler and a well defined understanding of family pecking order. These are only a few basic's of course. But any reputable breeder that you talk with should advise you more on these things and from there along with your research. You can make a sound decision on what's right for you.

Welcome!

I am in the same boat as you are except i live in the country in BC with bears and mountain lions. We are searching for another presa, we currently have one and have also owned pit bulls our whole lives. Our presa now is our first one but she is more of a show presa. I have been finding it really difficult to find a good guard dog. We bought our first presa on a whim and we want our next dog to be exactly what we want.

Until i found this sight last night i guess i was a little confused on what a true presa is... i had always heard that they don't have white on them unless its a tiny spot on their chest. but now i am seeing a whole different standard then i am use to and now I'm totally confused.

I have been in contact with Todd Blas so we will see what he has to say and maybe he can educate me better on what a true presa is. You should contact him as well maybe he can help you out.

Yes, I too would vouch for Todd. Very honest guy, did his research, tests his dogs for health and invests his time and money as wisely as one can ...breeder's that for example will put down cash in order on health tests before cropping for example I personally think are on the right track ...I have nothing for/against cropping, have a cropped dog as it happens, but despite being a key historic trait of the breed (in part to distinguish it from its founders), such is secondary to selection and screening. In like manner, his dogs fulfil the natural guardian role in the BC area, have encountered the flora and fauna, fended off intruders. Its a bad area to find trainers and clubs apparently, but with that weakness in mind he's obtained good stock, with strong natural qualities and then selected from the best of that over time, even keeping pups back he could have sold in order to better evaluate his breedings and the progress of his line. Lastly, his dogs like Daga, Minos, Nina, Coal for example are far from lacking in size or type. You'd be well placed to not only talk to, but pay visit to any good breeder that's metaphorically, on your doorstep. Presa's are a different breed for sure and the difference between them and the Dogo Canarios bred solely for Pet/Show is light and day.

Very good advice Dan, just thought I'd mention that I think Dan meant to say the difference between a Presa and a Dogo is like Night and Day :)

I would like to welcome to my kennels my first Shetland Sheepdogs. A stunning Sable and White male by the name of Arajento Justin Credible or Justin to his friends.

Shetland Sheepdog Club Of Qld Inc.
Championship Show 1.5.10 Judge: Mrs C Seeber WA
Rich coloured sable dog balanced and well proportioned. Not an abundance of coat but what he did have fitted him well. Depth and width of chest very good with well sprung ribs and good substance of body throughout. Skull a little too broad and looking for more moulding in the muzzle and fill under the eyes. Length of head in proportion with body. Ears well placed. Nice eye. Moved with reach and good drive coming from a well
angulated hindquarter.
