As I stated my last thread I just sort of "rescued" a presa pup from a guy in NY, now the he's "potty" traine, nbut knows no commands, thats ok I have all the time in the world to teach him. This is my question to the forum if someone goes to pet him he ducks his head and move his head back, sniff for a second then let them pet him! Is this hand-shy, cautious, or suspicious? He's not like that with me as he pratically tries to force me to rub him!

I think it is a bit of all three, not knowing how this dog was treated and what kind of socialization the dog has as a young pup, it would kind of hard to say. Does he bite or snap at people when they do this?

I would recommend that you advise people not to approach him trying to pet him; ask the person to stand there and let the dog approach them. If the stranger ignores the dog he is more likely to go toward the stranger if he is curious. You could have friends give him treats to invite him to them.

Snap? Heck naw only thing he snaps at is food! Not a ball, not a rope, not anything else.

I do not see what the issue is. Some stranger comes up to you and goes to pat you on the head, what is your reaction going to be? What is the reaction of a calm, confident person or dog going to be.

The issue isnt that he doesnt let people pet him initially its the way he ducks, he doesnt duck as to avoid the hand he ducks as if he's scared, with his eyes closed then on top of that his tail his always tucked!

That is a better explanation.

I would bet the owner before him hit him, I have seen a few dogs like this rescued (one very profoundly abused and then with much effort the negative impact of the bad experiences they have incurred by some total idiot(s), reduced significantly, takes a lot of time and impatience. You want to put good effort in correcting this.
