Diesel is a 2 year old neutered male Presa Canario that I pulled to foster
from the Manhattan SPCA this weekend. He is a social boy that will bond
quickly and strongly to a new owner. He is fine with female dogs and
submissive male dogs (he is a dominant, but not aggressive, recently
neutered male). He was an owner surrender (landlord wouldn't let them keep
him), who showed no food or toy possession at the shelter. He grew up with
multiple kids, down to the age of four. He has no history of aggression.
He is microchipped and up to date with all of his vaccines. He was
reported to be housebroken, but has marked in the house (needs a tune-
up:)). He is very responsive to correction and should be easy to train.

Here are some pics of Diesel I took today.

And after I made him get up from napping in the sun:

You can note a funky stance in the hind end in a couple of the pics. I had him looked at by an Orthopedics specialist at Cornell Vet today and he noted an old tibial break in the right leg. It is well healed at this point and not causing him any problems. In the long run he may have some arthritis in that leg, but should have no other issues related to the break. He is strong as an ox and it sure isn't slowing him down any.

He was very good at the vet school today. We met many people and other dogs and at no point did he show any signs of aggression. He will bark at strangers that approach the car when he is in it. He travels well and is calm and quiet in the house. He is current on all vaccinations and is heartworm negative.

Just curious, is he a Curto dog?

Unfortunately Diesel had to be euthanized shortly after Christmas for medical reasons.

He was a sick dog.

As a side note, I think with a young male in the house you are going to be much better off adopting a female dog as a companion. This breed is notorious for same- sex aggression. I just posted a female in a Baltimore shelter that you are welcome to check out.

Dave,

It is a shame that there are not more people in the breed willing to provide foster homes for dogs awaiting adoption. There is a real need for them.

I can't take the credit for most of Diesel's care- that goes to Carla and Steve Walker. All I did was pull his a$$ out of the shelter and help get him where he needed to go.
