In several breed encyclopidias(books) the name Canarian Fighting dog occurs. Often this is the headline and in small letters it says ''other names of this breed is..''
I was wondering if anyone knows if this name has any historic meaning, or if this name only occurs in bad breed books.
Thought I ask here first, and then ask the publisher of these books.

Not sure about the name but the big glossy books out there are just terrible. I was looking at the "New Dog Encyclopedia" and found Prsa Canario. The dog on a photograpch is Arbaco (blue!) and the book gives acceptable color patterns in the same article and of course blue isn't there duh! Once I read the text I put the book back on the shelf and will never open it again. it goes somethings like this:

" presa Canario old breed blah blah... primary purpose is dog fighting.... the breed numbers declined ,in the 60-70 of XXth century was revived by an american veterinarian Carl Semencic."

HUH?
