I was looking into irema curtos kennel and redstar. Just looking for insight and helpful oppions. Ok does irema curtos do any PP training or anything like that with his dogs as opposed to redstar? IS that kennel highly reputable with good dogs. I hope my post does not start any contreversy...

Well I think you can hope..,. but..... :D

Curto is on the Canary Islands, He is one of not the Father(s) of the reconstruction of the Breed, there is not formal PP or sport that I am aware of on the Islands. People have purchased dogs from him and competed them here. My dog is from Curto lines and I compete him.

oh i see. Well does anyone of the kennels throw out better dogs? again not trying to start contreversy which will. I talked to todd about purchasing a dog from him but no response. So i dont know about a curtos or a redstar dog. Maybe people can share there oppions of the kennels or dogs that come from there in a not so biased way. I am just trying to see the light.

I believe Todd has some Curto Dogs. I would say this, if you buy from a North American Breeder, go see the dogs, learn how to test pups or take someone with you that is knowledgeable. Pick your own pup or have someone very experienced in puppy evaluation.

They have both produced some excellent dogs. What do you plan on doing with your dog ? I mean what activity ?

I dont plan on competing my dog or any shows etc. I want to put it through obiedence and advanced obiedence, and possibly if i can find a trainer in my area i want to do some PP work with the dog. Esentially I want a house dog, that will be the family dog, and guardian/protector of the family in house and on the street. Esentially after all my research I have decided on the presa canario. I was considering a fila but I would think it would be innapropriate in the long run in my area and with people. I know todd has curtos dogs as Im aware of that. Again I dont know which kennel to purchase the dog from. So any help or information given to me would be very much appreciated.

Hey! Since their name came up......
I just visited RS's website and they got a new dog. I can't find anything on him except a couple pics on RS's site. Anyone know anything about him, Drago? Titles, training... the usual criteria.
I tried to look him up on the OFA site linked from their site, but I couldn't even find Dogo (Presa) Canarios..... I guess I don't know how to work the OFA searches :(
He looks nice :ok:

Where do redstar get there presa's from?

eSPO

You should talk directly to Redstar and Manuel Curto. Ask them the questions that you want to,that way you get it straight from the breeder and not second hand.

I would buy from Curto or another reputable Canary Island Breeder, myself.

Yes what is it your getting at? I also said I want it to be a family dog didnt I? All in all I am going to get a presa canario and I am dedicated to training it and doing whatever I have to do. I have done a tremendous ammount of researc h on this breed. I am not one of those careless dog owners that doesnt know how to raise a dog improper etc.

Sweetbud, although I like your screen name, maybe you should relax a bit and not take offence to what some of these guys are saying. The guys responding to your thread are very knowledgable and if you had the right attitude you could learn alot here. I don't think they are questioning you to offend or deture you but to get a better assesment of what your trying to acomplish(and your age shows by your tone in your responses). If its your intention to get a Curto dog then I'm sure you'll acomplish just that. But as I have learned there is ALOT more to it then just buying a pup from Curto lines and thinking you have done the right thing. Curto has excellent dogs and an excellent history with this breed but that doesn't mean their dogs are for everyone. Not a personal thing against you, maybe your just the perfect candidate for the dog you want, but I can say that you are doing the right thing by asking questions, maybe there are a few more questions you should be asking though. And when you get responses don't assume people have ill intentions behind them. I came on here nearly 1 year ago asking alot of the same questions and initially I felt the same way you did. these guys are judging me, they are trying to desuade me from getting what I want. but really its the furthest from the truth. these guys are awsome on here and the information is invaluable that can be attained here. good luck Sweetbud, you can PM me if you like. Maybe I can help you out a bit.

Sweet Bud,

This forum is not one where everydog is beautiful and should be bred, You are welcome to be honest here and voice your opinion as long as you do it in a non confrontational manner. We do ask these questions because do care about the breed and its future. You will find some pathetic boards where people openly brag about their genetic dwarves, breed known displastics and sell the dogs to "friends" after they`ve had their fun. This is not a board where we take the attitude "well you bred that diseased dog, so I can breed this one" . This is not a board where the most popular studs are known to be carrying defects and idiots think "we can breed it out by picking a suitable dog" . This is not a board where stupid idiots pay thousands of dollars for a "Champion" or son of a "Champion" with no idea of their background" . This is not a board where dogs have had 6 homes because they are passed from idiot to idiot .This is the board where you may get a question or two about your experience and intent because we would like to see the breed thrive in the hands of reasonable, experienced dog owners. You have made a decision , and though "sweet bud" brings a certain kind to mind you must understand the concern. It seems that you are saying ,essentially I am 21, I have a pitbull, and I like herb. Three things that don`t add up when considering the ideal owner for a dominant , strong willed breed that needs discipline in its formative period... That said, it does seem as though you are doing your due diligence in finding a good Presa.

Well of course its not. I would not join a forum with people who know nothing about anything and do the breed worse. I know this board is filled with members who have a strong passion for the presa canario without a doubt! You guys are all intent on preserving the breed and keeping a good name for it am i wrong? I completly understand where a good portion of You guys wouldnt want a potentially dangerous dog falling into the hands of some nimrod which would cause alot of bad publicity for the breed itself, and even the breeder which could lead to more BSL shit being brought up. The apbt is harshly targeted by BSL laws, last thing needed is to add the presa to the growing list. I just kind of took things the wrong way. Its not like I thought one day hmmm i want a presa i got money I am going to buy one. No I have spent alot of time thinking and reasearching and put alot of effort into it. I know these dogs are not for everyone and with good reason. Can you imagine if these dogs became as popular as the american pitbull terrier and highly commercialized, people crossing the presa with other mutts would only bring more harm then good. Dont look at my age and judge me by thinking I am to young. I have every intention and will act on them of doing everything possible to be a great owner etc. Its a huge learning process obviously...

My mind has been off the wall with choosing and deciding. There are so many possibilities that are endless. I deffinitly do what a curtos dog no question when it comes to the presa. I was going to do it through curtos but I am just going to wait for Todd and do my dealings through him!
