There are many more articles and newspaper articles where the authors clearly specify what breed they are speaking of. The Perro de Presa Canario was developed with one criteria FUNCTION FUNCTION FUNCTION and The Dogo was develped for SHOW, TYPE, and CONFORMATION. There are Grey areas because the nature of breeding tells us when outcrossing ( breeding non relatives) any dog in the pedigree or combinations of dogs in the pedigree may show up at any time. The problem arises when a good working dog emerges from a conformation bred line, The breeder automatically thinks there is "Gold " in that line but in fact they are breeding with "freaks" not representative of their progenitors and not as ikely to pass on these traits. A fact few in this country have grasped.

THANKS I WILL READ AND STUDY EACH ARTICLE. I WAS WONDERING WHAT TYPE I HAVE . WE JUST BOUGHT HIM (KOKOBEAR) HE IS A BRINDLE 3 MONTH OLD HE IS VERY BEAUTIFUL EXCELLENT BUILD, AND WHEN HE WALKS AND RUN ITS LIKE JUST SO AMAZING ! AND I LOVE HIM TO DEATH :) BUT YOU SEE MY HUSBAND PURCHASED THIS DOG WITHOUT DOING MUCH INVESTIGATING, I MYSELF ON THE OTHER HAD WANTED TO KNOW EVERYTHING I COULD ABOUT THIS BREED. WE PURCHASED HIM FROM A "BREEDER" HERE IN SAINT LOUIS. AND I SAY "BREEDER" BECAUSE HE WAS NOT VERY TRUST WORTHY IN MY OPINION I FELT HE WAS OVER BREEDING THE ONE PAIR HE HAD AND HE SEEM TO GET DEFENSIVE WHEN I ASKED TOO MANY QUESTIONS AS FAR THE BLOOD LINE AND SUCH... HIS DOGS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND DO VERY MUCH RESEMBLE THE DOGS OTHER BREEDS I HAVE SPOKEN WITH HAVE. MY KOKOBEAR IS VERY DOCILE , VERY LOVING TOWARDS MY FAMILY AND I AS WE ARE TOWARDS HIM.. I WOULD NOT TRADE HIM FOR ANOTHER BUT I WAS JUST CURIOUS AS TO WHICH ONE HE COULD BE AND AS FAR AS I CAN MAYBE TELL HE IS A DOGO ???? I JUST WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE...... THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME .

I do believe that's the first time I ever saw anybody, American or otherwise, refer to St. Louis as "Saint" Louis. Don't mind me. Oddities always intrigue me,lol. :P

It's very hard to tell what exactly do you have because of not enough information given. Maybe you can tell us something more like kennel name, parents name, post pedigree, pictures?

Where in st.louis are you located I live in st.louis so maybe we can get together. What was the name of the parents of the dog or the breeder chances are I know them.

Phil, this information is just that. The history background , development and distribution of the breed are interesting but they are not as important as the dog and your family being happy. Congrats on your dog, whatever he may be. Welcome. At his age 33 lbs is the high side of normal. How he will turn out at maturity is all conjecture, there are too many variables.

I WILL POST PICS ASAP ..... SURFINPLAY WE LIVE ON RIVERVIEW BLVD NEAR THE HALLS FERRY CIRCLE. THE GUY MY HUSBAND PURCHASED THE DOG FROM LIVES IN UNIVERSITY CITY HIS NAME IS ERIC EPPS. HE DOES NOT HAVE A KENNEL AND THIS IS ONE WHERE I FEEL MY HUSBAND MADE A MISTAKE, BUT HE DOES HAVE "PAPERS" ON HIS DOGS AND IS REGISTURED WITH THE AKC (NOT SURE IF THAT MEANS MUCH?) I WILL CHECK WITH MY HUSBAND ON THE NAMES OF THE DOGS AND THEIR PARENTS
