In a recent reply to a post, Azepro quoted a friend that claimed he doubted any Presa other than "Whiskey" could achieve a PSA 2 level.
Why would Presas have trouble with this type of competition? They would seem to have more than enough physical capabilities and the correct temperament . I have not seen a PSA trial, but I have read the test requirements, and they don't seem unreasonable for a Presa to perform.
I am new to the Presa world and am trying to learn all that I can before deciding that this is the right breed for my family.

Kevin, as the owner of a PSA titled Presa I can ABSOLUTELY tell you that there is NO PRESA alive that can achieve a PSA 2. Imported and titled Mals have routinely failed with their attempts. Check out a competition and speak to the competetors and judges. Most will be happy to talk to you. Just ask them how hard it really is. All the capability in the world is nothing without intention/desire, drive and balance. For sport, the presa is lacking.

Hey Shawn; never say never. :ok: Two years ago everyone said a Presa could not do it and Tianna got her PSA 1 so......there is hope! Just more control with a PSA 2 without the pressure....
Who is Whiskey??

Hey Shawn, why are you so down on Presas? How many Presas have you seen compete in PSA? How many Presas that are getting trained with an eye towards competition have you observed?...just curious...
btw, I agree with presas4me...people didn't even think a Presa could obtain a PSA 1 and now there are four Presas with such titles....so ya never know... :ok:

Juan I am not down, I am a realist. While alot of presas have started to compete the facts are that a PSA 2 is an unreasonable goal. Mals, Dutchies and serious AB's have all failed on a regular basis and these breeds have had far more put into them. Go to the PSA site and look at the trial results yourself. As far as seeing Presas compete I have seen every video out there, I am sorry to say that I have not had the chance to attend as many comps as I would have liked to. My comentary is not an insult mearly an observation of the breed as I see it today. Way to much talk, unacceptable breedings ($$$$$$$$) and an unwillingness to accept criticism on all sides. There are some that have "heart" and are trying to move forward but this small group bickers amongst itself instead of actually doing somthing. To me it has become a big waste of time. :(

As I’ve also noticed on the PSA site, not too many Molosser breeds do well in the PSA venue, just as there are not a lot of Neo’s in Schutzhund. They also probably would not do well in a Ring sport venue. This certainly does not mean that PSA is a bad venue, only that the requirements are difficult for some breeds. This also does not mean that the Presa cannot work, only that the job, meaning the sport venue, needs to be looked at carefully. While there have been few compete in the K-9 PRO SPORTS venue, there have been CC’s, BM’s, Rott’s, BB’s, BDF’s, and DDB’s compete and do well this year. I feel, after watching Butch Cappel working with a few Presas, that a Presa can be a very good Personal Protection Dog with the proper training. The three I’ve seen worked certainly didn’t lack in the nerve or prey department.

Hey Ron, no disrespect but there are many Mals, GSD's and Dutchies that are capable of titling in many different sports. PSA is an obedience and protection based sport just like Sch, Ring and K9PS. To say it (PSA) is biased twords herders is absolutly true, just like every other sport. While I have not had the priveledge of attending a K9PS comp I am wondering if it is in any way as difficult as Ring or PSA. To state that a BM has done well in any sport brings you this question. Finally, if you have seen three consecutive Presas that were not lacking in prey, nerve or both you should play the lottery or get to Vegas.....it was deffinately your lucky day.

My friend that made the quote has caught many dogs and is competing in the Nationals this weekend. I take his opinion at face value. We all judge this breed by what we have experienced. I have experienced high prey Presas and have watched and helped . I have no doubt that a two is possible with early training and imprinting of a Presa with the right genetics and training.

Dave, this is one area that you and I will just have to agree to disagree. Have a great time this weekend, I wish I could be there. I am looking forward to your observations when you get back.

We will have the opportunity to meet one day Lord willing. Juan I am looking foreward to meeting you ,the wife and Mole ! Sancho is looking forward to it too ! !
