In solving this problem remember the greatest benefit of a PP dog is its' deterrent ability. Usually the presence of a properly trained dog will stop anyone from considering you a potential victim. Use that to your advantage in this real life situation.

You and dog, are taking a trip in your
late model _________ whatever. For the story we will say pick up.

A few hundred miles from home you pull into a large convenience store for gas. The place is packed and you pull to the gas pump furtherest from the store.

Dog has been riding with you in the cab, but with the engine off and no AC blowing in the summer heat, you place dog in the crate in the bed of the PU as you begin to fuel up.

At that time you notice a group of panhandlers at the edge of the parking lot nearest your vehicle. They hold brown paper sacks, that they drink from, and apparently are off duty because they don't approach you for money.

After filling, you decide to pull your vehicle closer to the store, and then go inside to pay. You turn the key and the only sound you hear resembles a marshmallow being squashed. Your starter is dead and nothing is happening.

You call home (cell phone)to a friendly mechanic who tells you to tap on the starter a few times and see if it will start. If it does, then high tail it back home because that may be the last start you will get out of it, and your better off at home when it quits for good. You do as your told and get lucky, it starts.

You start to pull up the store doors, to pay, but all the parking spaces are taken. The speaker on the pump asks why you have taken so long to come in and pay and tells you to get in right now or they will call the police. You can't move the vehicle anywhere without causing a panic. You don't want to leave your vehicle with the engine running in front of the bums that are drinking a few feet away.

You can put your dog in the drivers seat, dog is very protective of the vehicle. But as aggressive as dog is when people approach the truck, the time you are waiting in line at the counter will be more than enough for dog to rip all your upholstry to shreds and maybe bust a window to get to the potential thief if they try, and worse there are huge sales banners on the front window of the store so you can't even see your truck once you step inside.

Here is the scene; Dog is crated in the back of the pick up, the engine is running, the clerk is telling you to get inside NOW, and the bums are now eyeballing your truck.

Your mission, get inside, pay, and get back, without having your vehicle stolen, or the interior redesigned by your dog while trying to prevent a theft.

Good Luck

I wave over one of the bums, ask him to take the money in and tell him I have some beer money for him when he gets back.

Just funnin with ya ! Butch, what if I were to make sure the emergency brake was on, roll down the window slighty and slip my leash through the window frame, put the snap end through the loop end and tie the dog to the truck on the drivers door. Close the door , leave the driver side door unlocked , lock the passenger door, place the dog in a sit outside of the truck. Tell him to "watch" and go pay the attendant. Come back put the dog away and leave. I don`t know if they would "Bum Rush" one of them cute little ,little high drive, hard biting , high Prey, Mallinois, but I doubt they would approach a pissed off Presa.

If the truck has separate keys for door and ignition I would leave truck running and lock the doors with the separate door key.

Could also tie fido up next to the door of the truck as a deterent but this only covers one side and not the other.

Getting much better. I agree, no one is "bum rushing" a Presa, aint it nice to own a real dog.

But we can get a little more efficient with a little less potential for a "bad bite".

Any one else???
