we have a 4 year old beagle male, 2 1/2yr. male 4lbs yorkie and 8mo male presa. it all started when female yorkie went into heat. the beagle and yorkie started fighting nothing bad all just all noise. we went though that with them every heat. but we got diesel(male presa) He buddied up with yorkie. When growling started between beagle and yorkie, diesel would get between the two at first just noise but got worse diesel would just pin beagle down we would tell him stop. Diesel would stop come to us but that darn beagle would just keep running after him and attack.diesel would pin him down again and walk away. this was when diesel was 5mo. well after the heat was over every thing fine again. Well now beagle always wants to fight heat or no heat. We put beagle in dog pen don't want to keep him there but the other night didn't know husband let him out. took others out before bed and that darn beagle came running up growling diesle just stood there like he didn't care just doing his buisness and the beagle jumped him diesel tried to just walk back to me beagle attached well my son came out and tried to spearate them and I think diesel was protecting him and grabbed the beagle and shook him like a rag doll and threw him. well beagle came right back as they were walking in house diesel pinned beagle to ground walked away beagle came charging back. This time beagle had punctures in ear and neck. Beagle back in dog pen he is a house dog what can we do to stop this if anything?

Laura, this is a tuffy cause its' a BEAGLE! Beagles. like most hounds are just driven to do what ever they are doing at the time. That usually has something to do with something in their nose that is a long, long way away from where ever they and their owner are at the time. The fact that something has gotten the attention of the Beagle that is not nose related means it is going beyond driven to something like COMPELLED!

Your job is first, to get his attention away from the Presa the minute the aggression starts. This will be difficult because recent science has proven that beagles have only one track running between both ears. Second, make him aware of the packleaders desires for peace and harmony.

First getting his attention. This is a breed that, many times, hooking E-collars directly to car batteries will not stop. So let's try a water gun, not just any water pistol, you want the missle launcher of all water guns. Get the most powerful one to be had. Next ammo, yeh, yeh, I know, it has to be water, but this is a Beagle, we need the equivalent of 44 magnum ammo, soooooo. Take a pitcher of water and place it in your freezer, just before ice crystals begin to form load your weapon!

Set him up so he can approach the Presa, Presa on leash for safety, someone with the Presa and some one in a position to fire at the first sign of aggresion. Right between the eyes and up the nose, that should stop the charge and get his attention.

Second step, grab him by the scruff of the neck,or collar, if needed, and raise him to your eye level, if you can't pick him up grab him and get down to his level. Now nose to nose in an angry "packleader" voice begin the butt chewin if a life time, throw in a few serious shakes of the scruff as you do it.

If you are nose to nose you will see at some point he will avert his eyes or even turn his head to keep from looking you in the eye. That is when you can stop and give him the opportunity to defy you again, which hopefully, wont happen if he is really sure of how angry you will be if he does it again. If it does, repeat and throw him back in the pen. Try again later after he has been isolated for a while.

Let me know if that doesn't work and I'll tell you where you can get a good deal on a car battery.

When you do pick him up be careful that you don't get bit. I like the ice water idea, we'll probably try that on our malinois when she digs. Darn dog has way too much energy. Running at the park dosen't tire her at all, I wish I could have some of her energy, would have a very clean house then. :)
