View Full Version : Training accident
I was driving by a park in Phoenix and I saw some people training their dogs. I pulled over to watch .They did not seem to be very experienced, it was mostly sleeve and clatter stick work. I saw the guy with the sleeve on accidentaly hit the dog in the eye with the stick, the dog popped off the bite and was hesitant to bite again. It was obvious that the dog got hit in the eye. What would be the best course of action to make sure this did not have a long lasting effect on the dog ?

The old tried and true, "When you get throwed, get right back in the saddle" I would have come straight back with a very fast prey bite and let the dog get a really fun win. Then instead of having the decoy slip, and let the dog "carry" the sleeve around, I would have had the decoy slip the sleeve and the dog watch, as the vanquished little coward ran off the field.
It was a shame to see what these guys did, they all came runing out to the dog and the kid who was handling the dog got upset and dragged his
dog to the car, shoved him in the back seat and took off ! What a shame.
