Hi guys, I’m new to this breed and looking for puppy.
I just have a question for you: $2000 and up is it reasonable price for show quality puppy of prestigious parents? Is there max. and min. price you will pay for the puppy?

$1500 should be the max. for a pup, $1000 for a min. for pet quality.

If you are new to the breed I would suggest learning as much as you could at first. Go to all the boards, ask questions and then go out and see the breed in some different venues. I personally have nothing against show dogs as long as they can do the work. This ability is a major component in what I believe is a correct dog. A spirited working dog is not for everyone, educate yourself and you will be prepared to make the right decision. At a minimum I feel safe in saying that you should be ready to train until your dog achieves a strict level of obedience. Add this to the cost of a good puppy from proven (health and temperment at a minimum) parents and I would say you are well over $2000. A pup with proven parents will easily be $1200 and can reach $2000+. Spend some time and do your homework, just don't forget about all the costs after you get a dog...... especially a working dog.

I did a lot of research, and I know how to deal with this kind of dog. But, you can find article on any thing except price, nobody will tell you what a lot is. That is why I ask you.
Price is the last step in my research.
Thanks for you answer, I appreciate it. Still is it a lot?

i cannot say a given price for a pup , it depends on the breeder and depends on the potential buyer. what is the pup worth to you?plasma big screen TV's are worth more than $5000 and they burn out in 5 years or so. although i would not want to pay that much for a pup, my dogs mean a heck of a lot more to me than a TV.
with a pup it would depend on the age. if you wait till 16 weeks you have a better idea of what a pups structure is going to be like, you can count the teeth and also determine what type of bite it is going to have. you could also have the hips prelimed or pennhipped, so i would say a 16 week old dog that is excellent in all those areas could be worth in between 2000-5000 dollars.will the ears be cropped ? another factor, is shipping included, etc.... as i said what are you willing to pay?what can you live with?

This is what I mean by homework. I am guessing you have 1 to 2 breeders in mind. Serious dog guys have always said, "Good Dogs Are Where You Find Them". If you have "Found" what you believe to be a reputable breeder that can qualify his or her sire and damm, I would say 2K is not too much. Just remember that what qualifies a dog or bitch in this breed is more than looks. Are you looking for a male or female? Will you be formally obedience training this animal once you get it?

I have two things:
Zhenya - I've been researching and have not seen a Presa on any website or any of my inquiries for over 1500.
Everybody :) - I thought the recommended age to get a Presa was between 8-12 weeks for "bonding". If you wait until 16 weeks wouldn't that be a little late?

Oh gosh - I know that didn't sound right but I couldn't find the words.
Have mercy... :)

i should have added in my first post regarding price, i am talking about something truely exceptional, not your average healthy pup but something amazing.
Use the pup Fausto de Irema Curto as example. i dont know how much he sold for but i would have easily paid $3-5000 Canadian for him. his hips were prelimed, he has a perfect bite , full dental , perfect bone, exceptional expression. he is amazing and very rarely do you ever see a dog offered for sale of his quality. most breeders when they produce something exceptional keep it for themselves or pass it along to another breeder in their club, so the general public very rarely is even given a chance to get the best. how do you put a price on that? like i said , it is all about what it is worth to you and how much you can live with.

In my opininion, there is no such thing as too much. You have to look at what kind of quality dog you are looking for and what he will be used for. Dogs range from 1200 - 5000. It depends on the dog's age, who the actual parents are and the breeder.

Price is what you must pay. Value is what you're just willing to give up.

For Fausto de Irema Curto, we paid just over 5000 CD, but that also includes the six months quarentine, all rabies and bloods, food, the only addition we have to pay are flight and carriage. People over here (UK) think we are mad for spending so much on our dogs, but we want quality. In our opinion a Fausto was a real bargin.
You pay what you feel is appropriate to you, my husband has a saying:
Cheap, no good. Good no cheap,
In other words - You get what you pay for.
This is not the most expensive presa we have purchased and I am sure will not be the last, but we will only purchase Curto dogs from now on, as in our opinion they are the best.
We want good breeding stock, for the UK, to help us to produce good quality pups, to show the UK what outstanding dogs presa's are.
These prices are for dogs shipped to us from the Curto's in Tenerife.
I am sure you will find your perfect pup from one of the breeders on this site.
In all of our hearts presa's rule.
Good Luck with your search, let us know how you get on.

i agree with you Austin, he is one of the best quality dogs i have ever seen up for sale. you and your husband are definitly building a kennel right with exceptional stock. and it will show in the future, when you are up and running and producing beautiful , genuine , Perro de Presa Canario!

I rarely post but in this case I will. I have a complete POS from a "reputable" breeder of working presa's. I paid a lot of money for her and she is completely worthless - oh wait - not completely I can use her for a foot rest - and she is a sweetie - but won't keep animals out of my yard - sleeps when people show up and runs when she gets nervous - I paid well over $3000. Ask Sam (aka Slamm) he paid next to nothing and got outstanding dogs. My advice - before you buy a pup - save your money and go visit the kennels you are interested in - visit the parents. See for yourself and never take a breeders complete word for it - we are all human and yes some do suffer from Kennel Blindess. I still want a good presa, but you know what? I will be spending a little over $1000 this summer alone to check out breeders and offspring. That is not including the money I will be spending next summer. I will not make the same mistake twice -
