Got back from our first UKC OB trial. We FAILED!! Two hours on the highway, then sat around for SEVEN HOURS waiting, and in five minutes we FLUNKED! AAAAAArrrrggghh...........

I don't know why I do this to myself. It's so weird in competition. Like at our BH, Bess has the most solid long down but in competition she broke it. She has a lazy recall, but in competition she ran full speed and almost knocked the wind out of me. In practice she recalls over a meter hurdle. Today she wouldn't jump 20 inches. She wandered away from me, she sat facing me instead of at heel, anything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong. I feel like crap.

Otherwise a pretty good weekend. Bess got to exchange breath with some nice horses and met her first pig, big fat breeder sow, that was interesting. She liked the horses ok, wanted to play but when she saw that pig man, she wanted to RUMBLE.

New folks from the puppy class graduated and were out for traning with the big dogs. Fella with a Von Waldberg GSD said within earshot of me, "you gotta see this dog, she is so smart!" Well if he was buttering me up it worked cause 10 minutes later I had him and his pup out of the field telling him every little thing I knew about learning the SchH OB routine. Then we went out tracking, got a field almost a mile long. Went out in the middle and laid a track, ended up going right past a huge skeleton of something. Went back and got Bess and she trailed right to my track, way out thru the swamp and sedge grass, I couldn't believe it.

Anyway, I'm gonna finish this fifth of whisky and go beat my dog or something. Grrrrrrrr.

We bother because its fun ! ! and our dogs love it ! You know Joe, we had the same conversation the other day, its like your dog does so well at home, around the block, the park , has it all down and then turns into a total goofball when it really counts. I think it is there way of getting even for the corrections !! We had a blast today. Here are some pics. Sancho is coming right along. He is in there somewhere ! They tell me that he will be ready by January.

I have a new bitch, she is simply awesome, after I post these pictures I will introduce her to Playa, wish me luck ! ! I may have pics later if it goes well ! I have out the prong collars and I am ready for some serious corrections. I will integrate her into the household by tonight! !
I did not mean to change the subject but I think all the dogs you see here are "on' some days and 'off' others ! ! I have been told this happens at the highest levels !

Congratulations on trying Joe!

I will be trying the UKC OB Easter weekend with both Tianna and Tyra (if they don't come in heat; both are due :( ) so I'll let you know how we do...

Dave that's a first gen AB/GSD? Wow. Might explain about the "mistirious" majorero, eh?

Yea, Cathy, good luck. Train for indoors. Long down went ok. Then our routine was sit, four paces, sit, for paces left, fast, normal, left, about turn, right, slow, normal, right & back to start. Went poorly. Figure eight around two people - they were more like 10 feet apart, supposed to be eight. Went well. Then recall over jump - she ran up to it, looked over, then walked around to finish. Game over.

Bessie's prong collar came out of retirement last night. I've been so into this touchy feely positive motivation Dr. Spock do no harm kind of training. Took her out and even with the collar she wanted to lag - WHAM. Went wide - WHAM. Forged - WHAM. Lagged again - WHAM. In 5 minutes she was an extension of my body. Found a school nearby that does "super drills" under high distraction, gonna see about signing up today.

You know what they say about those corrections eh ? One good "WHAM" is better than alot of liitle "tugs"
Yes 1st generation Bulldog, Shepherd ..., you can see how the Majorero Cattle Dog to Presa metamorphosis could happen in just a few generations. The dog has alot of Prey drive and moves very well.

Is it a Belgian Shepherd (Malinois) on the trike ? Or is it a GSD ?

Did you know that even the German police forces are switching from GSD to Malinois (we call the Mechelaars ), because they are leaner, faster, have more endurance and a more fierce temperament than the GSD ?
