Okay I'm confused is black an excpeted color? :P
I've been all over the Internet and I have seen photos of Black Presa's (I think they're Presa's) that are absolutely beautiful.
I've discovered there is some issues on the breed name and standards can anyone help me out with the differences?
I plan on making apurchase sometime in 2003, if a pup is available, and I want to make sure I buy a sound, healthy, "official", Canario.
What is the typical weight of these dogs? Again thanks in advance for your help.

For the Presa Canario the black colour is accepted, while it is not accepted for the Dogo Canario.
The Presa Canario also has (accordingly to the original standard) a maximum weight of 57 Kgs...
while the Dogo Canario Standard only recognize a minimum weight, but not a maximum weight.
The Presa Canario is recognized by the UKC, while the Dogo Canario is recognized by the FCI.
If you want to read more about the Presa you can also check the page

Personally I do like black presas a lot.
A fine example of a black presa pup was Kato, wich you can see here:

Regardless of which registry recognizes what , the Black color is a traditional color of the Perro de Presa Canario and the name and the color are worth preserving.

Is Kato still alive? Who were his parents?

Im sure you know the answer to your first question after browsing the "awesome" photo gallery (thank you Paolo) :)
The answer to your second question, I dont know, but you could look here: http://www.bessie.tv/sites/pedigree/ This is also an "awesome" site ( thank you Joe Brown) :)
I see you like the historical "Black" presa. I do too! I also like the fawn and reverse brindle. Maybe because they are rare colors? :) Whatever the color is, the Presa Canario is a great companion to have.
