The owners and breeders of the Dog Canario are welcome to post here as long as they contribute in a positive way. This is a forum about the Perro de Presa Canario. Since this forum is dedicated to the Perro de Presa Canario in historic name and color we would only ask that links to your Dogo Canario websites are not included in your profile or your signature does not reference the Dogo Canario. We do not recognize the Dogo Canario Standard,The CEDC,or the FCI standard of the Dogo Canario. We will breed to the standard that has been adopted by the UKC ,which is based on the RSCE standard, the last official standard of the for the Perro de Presa Canario which is listed above.(click standard under Presa Canario heading) This is no way meant to be an insult,we have chosen a different direction,we wish to preserve the Perro de Presa Canario in name and historically viable colors. We wish no malice to Dogo fanciers. We have simply taken a different direction.

We welcome all the new members form the international community.
This messageboard is for all lovers of the Perro de Presa Canario in historic name, color and temperment. The United Kennel Club is the registry for the Perro de Presa Canario in the United States and they have adopted a standard based on the early standards of the Perro de Presa Canario.
Thats Ok with me, but in Europe the Presa canario is not a breed. So what I own are Dogo Canario's because that's what it says on the pedigree.
I've seen all the pictures put on this forum. Do my dogs look like presa canario's or do these dogs look like Dogo Canario's because I do not see a real differents here.
just confused

my dogs are all imported from the mainland Spain (except own breeding) , there are they know as presa canario's. In fact when I say the words dogo canario most people automatically think of dogo argentino.
I myself don't like the name dogo canario and still call them presa canario's , unfortunately (i guess) the paperwork says otherwise and when I register for exhibitions (only fci exhibitions exists where i live) i use the words dogo canario because otherwise they wouldn't know what the hell i was talking about.

I've noticed on the Dogo forum the usernames, kennel names, and posts often refer to Presas or Presa Canarios, whereas here you never see us refer to our dogs as Dogos and no one has Dogo in their user name. Their kennel websites have both, too.
Thats true.
When I lived in Tenerife all the people talked about the presa canario or Verdino. Not about the Dogo canario. Dogo Canario is just a name for the same breed made up by the FCI. But I think Mr Curto will not agree with me.....
The same for the other board, they say the Dogo canario is an other breed as you say the Presa Canario is not the same as the Dogo canario. But who made this up? I have a presa canario male bought in Granadilla Tenerife. He does not have a pedigree. So what does that make him? Dogo Canario? Presa canario?
Who can give me specific differents between these two breeds?

..I totally understand that alot of our community members are in countries that are FCI affiliates. That is why we have welcomed all to the forum. The United States of America is not an FCI Country and the FCI is not a registry. In the United States the Perro de Presa Canario is recognized by the United Kennel Club ,the second largest registry in the world, and the AKC foundation stock service ( who has been keeping records of our Presas in the United States since the early 1990`s)
I can appreciate why your paperwork says the "D" word, but here on the El Presa Community messageboard they are Perros de Presa Canario. The important thing is not to argue about the name. The important thing is to educate all people about training, nutrition, socializing, and living with these awesome dogs . This messageboard was started many years ago by people with the same goal to preserve the Presa Canario in its original name, standard and temperment , we have accomplished that.We will continue the tradition started over thirty years ago by Canarian enthusiasts. We have nothing against owners of FCI registerd Dogos, we just do not recognize " Dogo Canario" as a legitimate name for this breed. I notice people are even avoiding using the "Dogo Canario" now, "Canarian Dogo" , "Canarian Dog" seem to be gaining favor. Maybe if enough people are embarrassed by the "Dogo Canario" name the FCI will change it back to Presa Canario when the provisional recognition term is over. Wouldn't that be nice ?
Nah !

Since the dogs have the same derivation, Dogo and Presa, for awhile they will be the same dog with different names,,, a Rose is a Rose by any other name, given the differences in Standards being bred to that will change over time.
Your dogs look good, but not as great as you.... :P
I will have to meet you and your husband in Barcelona, maybe cause he is such a lucky guy he can rub my head and pass on a little luck. :D

Wonder what the puppies will look like! :P
18th December 2003, 17:07
What will they look like?
A Dogo or a Presa, a white person or a black one....it's the inside that counts!!
So enough moral talk today,.......
Sorry, but I'm allready taken and spoken for. Got my own two little crossbreds! Hahaha!
But hey Dennis,.......you'll never know ;) Still looking around for you.

A mature Presa Person and a mature Dogo Canario person getting along just great... Oh How Sweet!!
PresaPais,, keep looking!!! Ill pay you a finders fee? You need to find my your twin!! :ok:
Your crossbreeds, did you take a year or two off between heats? :D
Let me know when you have a very good prospect for me, Ill fly to Amsterdam
umm if Elijah and Mila's health and hips check out, maybe we could do a little trading of stock?
19th December 2003, 20:35
:P I asked my parents and there's no hidden twin some where, I'm sorry.
Dennis are you sure you want to trade stock? My pups come with FCI Dogo Canario papers........ I only can import pups with Dogo papers. The problem is that a presa/dogo canario without FCI papers is nothing more than a pittbull look alike and the police can take the dog and put it down if they like. Pittbulls are illegal in Holland. I know this law sucks, but what can we do.
My new bitch Viva got a very, very good result on the Molosser, bullbreed show last weekend. I had a French judge and the only thing a could understand was "Madame, tres exellent!!" So I will go for a Pennhip soon and see if her hips are as good as she looks.[/img]

Oh,, I am very sad, Valeska has no twin!!! It will take me some time to get over this now. I think Ill go and drown my sorrows in a a few beers!!!
 umm Ill just have to steal the original!!! :ok: :P
Well, I just have to get my dogs FCI registered. Definetly NOT Pitbull look alikes. Then if we exchange we can have FCI and UKC papers!!!

Ok, Ill modify the thrust of the post.
Is it possible to register a dog with the FCI and the UKC and both Presa and Dogo Canario?
AmericanC
20th December 2003, 01:43
Yes, There are dogs that I own who are FCI registered as Dogo Canario's and I register them as Presa Canario now. They are Irema Curto dogs and he realy didn't have a choice at the time.
SteelFistVelvetGlove
20th December 2003, 14:18
Its cool that you have dogs registered as both.
Is this still possible? Does the FCI exclude a dog that has been registered as a Presa with the UKC, and visa verse?
Or are they transcendant and not idiot political enough to allow it as long as a dog meets their criteria?
thx

I wouldn't go out of my way to register my dog FCI it never helped me. The only registry that ever helped me was Mr.Kelly's NPPCC and now the UPPCC. :ok:
